SUP Overview

ISLE Surf and SUP’s most popular inflatable paddle board, the 2019 ISLE Explorer 11′ is an eye-catching all-around iSUP that works well for everything from touring, SUP fitness, exploring, and general paddling fun. ISLE’s Explorer 11′ features a brand new design for this season and three stunning color options: Aqua, Grey, and Sand. There’s also the longer Explorer 12′ model which is a nice option for larger paddlers.

This board comes well-equipped with several great features and a full bundle of SUP accessories. At the front and rear are bungee cargo areas for added storage capacity, making this a good board for overnight SUP camping adventures.

There are also grab handles located at the nose and tail of the board which are super convenient for pulling the board in and out of the water. We’re happy that the company included a second grab handle at the tail of the Explorer 11′ as this is something that is missing on both the ISLE Pioneer and ISLE Scout.

Lastly, there’s a grab handle mid-board, SUP cooler tie-downs, and a comfortable brushed EVA foam traction pad.

The Explorer 11′ once again features a three fin setup on the underside with two fixed side fins and a removable center fin.

In terms of construction, the Explorer 11′ features a drop-stitch core with two-layers of durable PVC. Also, the shape of the board’s nose is designed to cut through wind and chop, improving both speed and paddling efficiency. Atoll’s 11′ SUP and the new GILI Adventure both share the same shape and very similar specs, with GILI’s board coming in a bit lighter at 19 pounds.

As with all of ISLE’s inflatable paddle boards, the new Explorer 11′ iSUP includes a nice accessory bundle with everything you need to get on the water. In the box, you’ll find:

• 3-piece carbon fiber travel paddle
• iSUP backpack
• Dual-action hand pump
• 8′ coiled leash
• Repair kit

ISLE Surf & SUP also includes a 1-year warranty with all of their boards and there’s a 60-day “Ride it Guarantee” which protects you if you’re unsatisfied with the board in any way. Just keep in mind that if you decide to return the board within 60 days of your purchase, ISLE charges a 20% restocking fee.

ISLE’s Explorer 11′ can also be used for SUP fishing, although it lacks an accessory mount that can be used to secure a fishing rod holder. We’d love to see a multi-use accessory mount added in the future, similar to what is currently being used on the iROCKER ALL-AROUND 11′. This would also give the board some added versatility as the mount could be used for a GoPro camera, waterproof speaker, fishfinder, and other paddleboarding accessories.

When it comes to inflatable SUP boards, ISLE is definitely one of the bigger names in the industry and their boards are a popular choice because they are feature-rich, great looking, and include a nice bundle of SUP accessories. This year, the company has a total of 8 inflatables that range in size from 10’6″ to 15′ in length, and the Explorer continues to be their most popular model.
